One of the reasons we moved to Colorado was to pursue an opportunity with a Christian coaching leader that mentored me during a formative season of my life. As I made a significant career change, Alan Briggs, founder of Stay Forth, provided me with invaluable leadership skills that shaped me during that time.
Alan made a huge impact on my life over a 6-month period, right before our transition out of the family business and into new adventures.
During those 13 months, I learned how to live and work with immense purpose. I learned the basics of executive coaching. Most importantly, I learned that faith is the driver of faith-based organizations. Go figure.
In this post, I simply want to tell me story about my time with Alan Briggs of Stay Forth. Yes, Alan is a great friend of mine, Yes, this post is an advertisement for Alan’s service. No, Alan has no idea I’m writing this.
The Impact of Christian Leadership Coaching on Personal Growth
Christian leadership coaching is more than just a leadership tool; it’s a process rooted in biblical principles designed to help you unlock your full potential as a Christ-centered servant leader. Alan isn’t just a great leader when it comes to executive leadership coaching—he is a connector and a Christ-centered servant leader by nature.
The skills and leadership experience I gained through this coaching relationship prepared me to face my own leadership challenges with confidence and grace.
Alan’s leadership coaching utilizes powerful tools like emotional intelligence, strategic planning, and personal connection to enable leaders to address their challenges in a in a safe, healthy 1 on 1 environment. These powerful conversations were integral to my personal and professional growth. We didn’t just tackle business; we worked through some of the toughest leadership challenges together, always guided by our shared faith.
Discovering My Calling Through Christian Coaching
Ironically, the opportunity to work with Alan was something I had secretly hoped for but never thought possible. As God orchestrated events, an opportunity presented itself at just the right time, and it aligned perfectly with my calling. Read more about that here. As we landed in Colorado, I began consulting with Alan on building his coaching business, combining my business owner and EOS experience with his coaching expertise. This partnership gave me insight into the workings of a faith-based organization driven by both income and impact.
How Coaching Helped Me Reach My Full Potential
Through the coaching process, I gained clarity on my professional calling. I realized that, for this season, my role was to help others pursue their dreams. His Christian coaching not only gave me leadership skills but also showed me how to align my work with my faith, ensuring that my leadership had a lasting impact. This growth came through careful application of biblical principles and an unwavering commitment to God’s direction in my life.
Gaining Leadership Skills Through Biblical Principles
Throughout my time at Stay Forth, I learned the importance of leading with faith and purpose. Leadership, when framed within biblical principles, helps leaders make decisions that align with God’s will for their life and their business. Alan’s coaching style incorporated the Holy Spirit into every decision, reminding me that leadership is about serving others, just as Christ served us.
Further, I realized that despite the tough times that will absolutely come in the world of business and in life, the best leaders are the ones that endure through those tough times. By placing a greater focus on the journey rather than the destination, you can reach the edge of burnout and push through to truly enjoy the journey itself.
Embracing Tough Leadership Challenges
Leading isn’t always easy, but Christian leadership coaching taught me how to embrace tough situations and lead with grace. We faced numerous leadership challenges together, but Alan’s approach—focused on Christian coaching principles—helped me see the value of tackling obstacles head-on. Leadership, I learned, requires stepping out of your comfort zone, developing healthy boundaries, and always staying rooted in your faith.
One specific example I remember is when we were discussing a podcasting adventure I had just started. He began inquiring as to why I felt I had to do it alone. I had no real answer. As we move further into the coaching session. I realized that I was a fantastic compliment, but I really didn’t have much of a desire to lead alone.
How Leadership Coaching Paved the Way for New Opportunities
What Alan asked me to do for his organization contributed significantly to my leadership effectiveness. The leadership skills I gained not only prepared me for new opportunities but also equipped me to tackle leadership challenges with confidence. I developed skills I didn’t even know I needed, and the confidence I gained allowed me to take on new leadership roles in my career.
While I wasn’t financially compensated for my time at Stay Forth, the first-hand experience I gained was priceless. My time spent with Alan Briggs and the Christian coaching principles he used helped me understand what it truly means to lead with faith and purpose. This kind of leadership experience is something no paycheck can match.
